Outspoken feminist Germaine Greer is among a number of well-known figures taking part in a four-day literary festival in Cavan.

Other events for Caomhnu Literary Festival include exhibitions, readings, lectures, master classes and rehearsed readings, including readings from Shane Connaughton, Dermot Healy and Eugene McCabe.

Ms Greer, whose ground-breaking work The Female Eunuchbecame an international best-seller, will be taking part in a reading and discussion in the Johnston Central Library and Farnham Centre in Cavan on Sunday February 4th.

Organisers said the literary heritage of Cavan will be shown by characters such as Bishop William Bedell who, in the 16th century, translated the scriptures into Irish.

Other Cavan figures highlighted will be Irish language poet Cathair McCade, Henry Brooke and daughter Charlotte, historical novelist Mary Anne Sadlier and Jonathan Swift who penned Gulliver's Travelswhile staying in Cavan.

During the festival, which is running from February 1st-4th, events will take place in the Radisson SAS Farnham Estate Hotel, as well as the Johnston Central Library and Farnham Centre.
