The parents of Mr Anthony Lane (18), an apprentice carpenter who died in a fall at a Cork building site, yesterday embraced and cried with their late son's former employer as he appeared in court for breaches of safety regulations. "We all hugged one another when we arrived here. My son was very fond of his boss," Mrs Marion Lane told Judge Uinsinn Mac Gruairc at Cork District Court.

Keohane Builders Ltd pleaded guilty to failing to supply a guard rail on a staircase at a site on Cook St, Cork, on August 25th last and failing to ensure employees were not at risk.

Mr Joe Cuddigan, defending, said that the accident had "a profound effect" on the head of the company, Mr Tony Keohane, and his family. Judge Mac Gruairc imposed a £500 fine on each charge.
