Half-days of sun to brighten weekend fun

Met Eireann says the bank holiday weather will be mixed

Met Eireann says the bank holiday weather will be mixed. There is a "medium" risk of sunburn in all regions, along with moderate pollen counts. The predicted degree of sunburn has little to do with weather and more with general ozone conditions. In general the weather is likely to be unsettled. It "will not be especially warm".

Last week's relatively high average temperatures in the 20s will not be experienced over the weekend - and temperatures in general will be up to 18 or 19 degrees. Today will be both sunny and showery. Tomorrow will see "more general rain", clearing later. Bank holiday Monday, too, will be showery.

It's not all doom and gloom, however. There will be "half-days" of sunshine in many areas and short periods everywhere when the umbrellas can remain closed.

The AA is warning road travellers to put safety first. Motorists are being advised to slow down, wear seat belts - even for short journeys - and to take breaks if driving long distances.
