Cardiff City owner Sam Hammam has pledged to support one of his security guards despite revelations the man has a conviction for football hooliganism.
Neil MacNamara was seen walking around the pitch with the Lebanese businessman following Sunday's controversial FA Cup game against Leeds.
It is believed that he is known to the National Criminal Intelligence Service's unit that deals with football hooliganism.
Hammam said last night that he had no intention of sacking Mr MacNamara and that he had known about the previous conviction for several months.
"Mac is like a poacher turned gamekeeper," he said. "He knows how to handle certain situations. He knows what is going on in a fan's mind. He knows how to handle it and how to keep them quiet. Usually poachers can become the best gamekeepers. I have no worries about Mac".
A joint investigation was begun by the Football Association and the Football Association of Wales on Monday into the violence that marred Cardiff City's 2-1 win over Leeds.
