Mr Patrick Hanratty SC, said he wished to "utterly reject" the "litany of implications and allegations of professional misconduct" made against him yesterday by Mr Garrett Cooney SC.
"I have been in practice at the Bar for 23 years and nobody has ever suggested to me that I was guilty of any form of professional misconduct," Mr Hanratty said. "I regret that Mr Cooney has seen fit to make such accusations.
"I completely reject them and I wish to say that I consider them totally baseless and it is unworthy of Mr Cooney that he should stoop so low to resort to that sort of a tactic in support of his submission."
Mr Cooney made reference "in the context of an assertion of professional misconduct that we did not have a solicitor present when we interviewed Mr Grehan, ignoring the fact that Mr Grehan is not a client in a court case," Mr Hanratty said.
Mr Cooney also implied the tribunal lawyers had put words into Mr Grehan's mouth and asserted that the lawyers were engaged in dubious ethical standards. Mr Hanratty said these remarks impinged on his professional integrity.
