A District Court judge has ordered the media not to identify a 32-year-old man who has been charged with harassment of a girl.
The man was arrested on Tuesday by gardaí investigating a series of alleged attempted child abductions in the general Skerries/north Co Dublin area.
He appeared before Swords District Court yesterday morning where Judge Patrick Brady was told he had made no reply when charged.
It is charged that on October 13th at Selskar Road, Skerries, he harassed the girl contrary to Section 10 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Persons Act.
Gardaí objected to bail because of the seriousness of the charge; the possibility of further, more serious charges being brought; and the possibility he could interfere with potential witnesses. Gardaí were also concerned the accused, who is from Nigeria, could leave the jurisdiction.
There was no bail application but a solicitor for the accused was granted legal aid after the judge was told he is unemployed and his wife is earning €100 a week. The man was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday, December 6th.
The judge made an order preventing the printing of the parties' names and addresses due to the age of the alleged victim.
