The key requirement now in Northern Ireland was confidence, the Tanaiste, Ms Harney, has said in New York, writes DΘaglβn de Bread·n.

The final triumph of democratic politics over violence was in sight.

"Unionists must have confidence that republicans are committed to peaceful [politics and have abandoned the option of violence for good. Equally, republicans must have confidence that the unionists are committed to a inclusive society in Northern Ireland in which both communities can play their full part," she said.
