Officials at Haydock Park have been forced to abandon this afternoon's National Hunt meeting with parts of the course waterlogged.
Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright explained the situation after a decision was made before the scheduled 7 a.m. inspection.
He said: "We've had 11 millimetres of rain in the last 24 hours, of which 9mm fell last night, so it was hopeless. If there had been 2mm or so overnight then we would have been in with a shout.
"But there are extensive areas of standing water and we are currently in the middle of a hailstorm and the car park is white."
