The highest demand for management posts in 2003 was from the health sector, according to report today from the Irish Management Institute (IMI).
According to its Management Recruitment Index more than a fifth of the 1,057 management positions advertised last year were in health related organisations.
Of the remainder the tourism and hospitality industry sought 112 managers, closely followed by 110 for construction and engineering. The Finance and insurance sector advertised for 100 managers while the retail sector sought 99.
The IMI said 20 per cent of the posts advertised were for senior managers. A third of the posts advertised were within the public sector. Today's data marks the first in what the IMI says will be quarterly indicators.
The IMI said publishing this data on a ongoing basis should assist understanding of how changes in the economy impact on the recruitment of managers.
