Those patients planning to undergo plastic surgery abroad should seek an opinion here first, says plastic surgeon Mr Jack Kelly. The Galway-based plastic surgeon said it was difficult to comment on the death of Limerick woman Kay Cregan on March 17th, without knowing exactly the circumstances.
Seeking an opinion in Ireland usually involves a patient being referred by their GP, he says. If a patient self-refers, plastic surgeons here would generally seek permission to correspond with the patient's GP. Dr Patricia Eadie says Ms Cregan's death was very unfortunate. In terms of advice to people considering cosmetic surgery, she adds: "They have to realise that cosmetic surgery is real surgery. It is not to be undertaken lightly."
