** Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) is holding a five-a-side soccer tournament to raise funds for its work in screening, building awareness of cardiac risk and counselling. It takes place on Sunday, August 29th, 11am-2.30pm, at the Astropark in Tallaght. Family entertainment will be provided. See cry5asidechallenge.com
** The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland will host the Lakes 10k charity run around the Blessington lakes at the end of next month. This year’s Lakes 10k aims to attract 600 participants. Earlier this summer, the ‘1 in 1,000’ group, which ran the Womens Mini Marathon, raised more than €270,000 – €70,000 in excess of their target. Tickets from €18. ** This month, Focus Theatre will stage a play about Tourette syndrome, TIC, by Youghal playwright, Elizabeth Moynihan. Set in the 1890s, TIC aims to highlight the personal and social impact of a physical disability that was not understood by the society of the time.

** The Centre for Ageing Research and Development in Ireland is offering up to €80,000 for research projects on ageing issues on the island of Ireland. Funding of between €5,000 and €20,000 will be offered per project. Applications are invited from academic, non-profit, voluntary and community sectors. The deadline is noon, October 1st.
