Fionnuala Sherry, singer and violinist
Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?
One of my best friends is a fitness expert who tries to preserve me from the unhealthy rock’n’roll lifestyle of constant touring and recording. So far his guidance and monitoring has worked, as I can still wear the leather skinny jeans I wore for the Eurovision in 1995 – I thank God vintage is cool! I have to be fit and stay in shape for the stage, so keeping to his workout routines and diets are a must.
How often do you exercise?
Under his guidance, about five times a week. He usually creates a programme for me to take on tour that I can do in a hotel room if there is no gym available. When I am home I love walking our dog, Yogi, around Killiney Hill, and some of the hills there are steep enough to give a great workout!
Do you get your five a day?
Every morning I start with good intentions of eating five a day, but usually fall apart as the day goes on. I somehow hit the target more often with veggies than fruit.
Do you worry?
There is a saying that whatever you worry about can come back to you, so I try to worry only about good things in the hope that they will happen.
What do you do to relax?
I love to hang out with my husband, family and friends. With good food, wine and great company, it’s the perfect mix to create a recession-free zone.
What’s your unhealthiest habit?
Sleep deprivation. When I am working on a CD, candles are burned at both ends, everything is consumed into the making of it and all health and fitness routines quickly disappear. We regularly do all-night sessions in studio and by the end a full night’s sleep seems an unbelievable luxury.
Fionnuala Sherry releases her debut solo album , Songs From Before, this month.
