Tips on how to eat out healthily:
Ask for the sauce for your meat or fish dish to be served on the side. That way, you can choose the amount you wish to use.
Consider asking for a smaller portion. Avoid 10 oz steaks.
Ask for your vegetables and potatoes to be served without butter.
Avoid deep-fried accompaniments such as chips, potato wedges or garlic mushrooms.
Keep your alcohol consumption at one to two units per day (one to two glasses of wine) and drink plenty of water.
When getting a take-away sandwich, have either butter or mayonnaise, not both. Ask for plenty of lettuce and tomato.
Choose wholemeal bread or a herb bread rather than white bread.
Have a piece of fruit with your lunch instead of crisps, chocolate or cake.
Choose a fruit-based dessert.
