A different approach to dyslexia

An approach to dyslexia which builds words from individual sounds will be explained at seminars in Galway, Cork and Dublin this week. Developed by Keda Cowling ( www.kedapublications.co.uk ), the approach is called Toe by Toe. The seminars, which will be given by Frank Cowling, Keda's son, will be held tonight at 7pm in the Galway Education Centre, tomorrow night at 7pm in the Maryborough Hotel, Cork City and on Thursday at 7pm at the Blackrock Education Centre, Dublin. Children in primary schools throughout the country will receive book tokens on Thursday in celebration of World Book Day. These tokens can be exchanged in bookshops throughout March for one of 10 books specially produced for the event. World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries throughout the world.

Breath of fresh air

The Asthma Society of Ireland has relaunched its website to include a new section for parents of children with asthma and teachers who have children with asthma in their classes. The site also contains a section called Airplay which educates children about asthma in a fun way. See www.asthmasociety.ie.

Pyjama party

The National Children's Nurseries Association will hold its fifth annual Pyjama Day on Friday, March 28th. Over 40,000 children and 10,000 childcare staff will pledge to stay in their pyjamas on Pyjama Day to raise funds for the Make A Wish Foundation and Children in Hospital Ireland.
