We should never take our health for granted, Today FM DJ Tony Fenton tells Patricia Weston.
Do you exercise? Yes I do. If I can make it, I play indoor footy four times a week. I love playing soccer.
Are you a gym junkie? Well I joined a gym in September last year. It's five minutes from my front door so I try to make it twice a week.
What's your workout? At the gym I hate the treadmill because I get bored after 10 minutes, yet I could run around after a ball for an hour. So my routine is play ball, then head to the gym for my favourite exercise which is swimming.
Any activity you'd like to try? I would try anything once and I have; Yoga, kick boxing, karate to name a few, but at my gym they have a climbing wall and I haven't tried that yet, God help the instructor if I do.
Do you eat a healthy diet? I try to eat a healthy breakfast. Fruit and a cereal then tea and toast. I drink lots of water during the day but I am a sucker for hot Indian and Thai food in the evening.
What foods do you love? I like all types of foods and I'm very adventurous when it comes to food. My favourites are Indian, Thai, Italian, and more recently Japanese. I like to cook too, I do a mean penne arabiata.
Any vices? I have too much coffee and chocolate after dinner. I don't smoke, although I did try once when I was a kid, and I drink Guinness and red wine.
What's your attitude to exercise? I think we all should exercise at least once a week. It's so important particularly when you get older. I used to get exhausted just thinking of exercising, but when I finish a one-hour game of indoor soccer and then swim I feel so alive. I also feel lucky to be able to exercise; we should never take our health for granted.
Patricia Weston recommends:
Climbing is a great way to improve muscular strength and endurance. It's a full body workout and you can burn up to 770 calories an hour on a climbing wall.
You climb a wall laced with footholds and handholds while tied to one end of a rope. Your partner controls the other end of the rope at the bottom of the wall and this is called "belaying".
It's intellectually challenging because you have to strategically plan each move and no two climbs are the same.
A good way to prepare and warm up before climbing is to use the rowing machine.
