A Guide to Living with Parkinson’s is a new booklet available free from the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland. It provides useful tips and tricks to help people manage the varying symptoms of this neurological condition which results in muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement and postural instability. The World Health Organisation estimates that neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s will surpass cancer as the second most common cause of death by 2040.

Spiritual retreat explores ageing
Spiritual Growth in Later Life is the theme of a weekend retreat from January 9th-11th in Dzogchen Beara Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Centre, near Castletownbere, west Cork. The weekend will explore how a spiritual approach towards ageing can help people find joy and wisdom in later life.
It will be led by David Chernikoff, from the Spiritual Eldering Institute in the United States and supported by Christine Whiteside, Rigpa Spiritual Care Educator. Cost €180.

Mobile phone guide for parents
The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Barry Andrews, will launch a new Irish Cellular Industry Association (ICIA) guide, aimed at providing parents with what the organisation says is “support to ensure the safe and responsible use of mobile phones by children” in Dublin today.
Among the issues the guide will look at are bullying and malicious communications, spam, social networking, e-mail/webmail, theft, illegal and malicious images and video clips.
