To keep her children safe, she has put socket guards into the sockets that are accessible to small fingers, just in case one of the children sticks something into one. But certain safety gadgets may not always work. "Harry saw me installing a lock on the fridge and he just ripped it straight off."

Patton says you need to constantly watch out for new potential dangers in the house, especially when children start moving. "When they start to stand, they lean on things and if a piece of furniture is not very strong, they can pull it over." You should also remove anything from the middle of the floor.

"Harry can reach things - he's getting that bit taller. But we don't have any sharp edges at his level." He also understands when he's told something is 'hot'. But, like any child his age, he's still had the occasional minor incident.

Her husband, Alan, brought Harry to Temple Street, but there was no serious damage.

"Sometimes he seems to have a few falls one after the other. Even today I was just coming in the back door and he just tripped and fell over and then went out to the back garden and fell again.

"I mean, it gets to the stage where you just want to have a helmet on them."
