A NEW TAPE for treating sports injuries and back pain in pregnant women can speed up recovery, according to its Irish distributor.K-Active kinesiology tape promises to relax overused muscles and improve circulation in the area of the pain. The tape is pre-cut in shapes designed to tackle hamstring, knee, shoulder, groin, neck and calf injuries, as well as lower back pain in pregnant women.

By supporting muscle structure and stabilising movement, the tape can cut recovery time, its makers say.Designed by Japanese chiropractor Dr Kenzo Kaze in the 1970s, the pre-cut adhesive version of the tape was launched by its Irish distributor Sports Pain at the Aviva Stadium. The launch was attended by members of the Shamrock Rovers, the Garda cycling team and the Dublin Rebels American Football team, all users of the tape. Managing director of Sports Pain, Paul Drumm, said: 'Most of these tapes can be applied by the individual themselves, you don't need to be a trained physiotherapist.' Shamrock Rovers team physiotherapist Fearghal Kerin said: 'Traditional tape is more rigid and restricts motion, whereas this tape helps to facilitate motion.' At the launch in the Aviva Stadium were model Caoimhe and Shamrock Rovers' Ryan Thompson
