Forty-five worker are to lose their jobs in Ballina, Co Mayo, as their US-based employers move part of their production operations to China.
There had been fears amongst the 80-strong workforce at Dekko Heating Technologies for some time that redundancies were looming. The remaining 35 jobs at the factory in Ballina are safe, management said.
Mr Peter Brady, General Manager of Dekko, which assembles a wide range of items for the heating technology market, said the redundancies were inevitable after part of the plant's operation was being transferred to China.
Furthermore a major contract with a client for a particular product had recently expired.
Mr Brady said the parent company in the United States had confirmed the strategic importance of the plant as its European base and said the company was continuing to invest in Ballina from a sales and marketing; research and development and laboratory viewpoint.
