The new Garda surveillance helicopter assisted in the search yesterday of woodland on the outskirts of Galway for raiders who got away with £2,000 in a raid on a post office in Oranmore near the city.
Three men wearing balaclavas entered the post office at 11.40 a.m., at least one of whom was armed with a handgun. The gang made their getaway in a black Mercedes which was stolen in Ballinasloe. They abandoned the car three miles away and fled to woodland. Gardai cordoned off the area but no arrests were made.
