Centre Rob Henderson has failed to make the 22-man Ireland squad named today for next weekend's Six Nations clash with Scotland at Murrayfield.

The Lions star scored a tremendous try on his return from injury during Munster's Celtic League final win last weekend but Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan has resisted returning Henderson to the international scene too early and has instead named him in the 'A' squad.

But Munster out-half Ronan O'Gara, injured in Saturday's Celtic League final at Cardiff, has, as expected, been selected .

Leicester winger Geordan Murphy is included ahead of the versatile John Kelly as cover in the back division.

Brian O'Driscoll retains the captaincy in Keith Wood's absence having led Ireland to three victories out of three in the November internationals over Australia, Fiji and Argentina.

Eight players, including Wood, have not been considered for the match because of injury.

The others were backs Jonathan Bell and Tyrone Howe, props Emmet Byrne and Paul Wallace, wing Justin Bishop and forwards Paul O'Connell and David Wallace.

Coach Eddie O'Sullivan will name the starting XV next Wednesday.
