Stephen Hendry displayed the grit and determination so often associated with the former world number one to beat Jimmy White 6-4 in the quarter-final of the Benson & Hedges Masters this afternoon.
The peoples favourite, White, failed to capitalise on a 3-1 lead he had built over the Scot.
In response, Hendry the six-times masters champion compiled a four frame winning combination to readdress the balance in his favour.
With the crowd clearly in the 'Whirlwinds' favour, the left-hander pulled one frame back, giving himself hope at 5-4.
In what turned out to be the final frame, the referee had to warn the fervent crowd at the Wembley Arena to calm down as the noise and sporadic outbursts were clearly disrupting the concentration of both players at a crucial point in the match.
Hendry, however, gathered himself and made no mistake in the 10th, taking it 66-52 and with it booking a place in Saturday's semi-finals.
Meanwhile, in one of the other quarter finals, an all-Ireland enounter between the the former world number one Ken Doherty and fellow Dubliner Fergal O'Brien got underway this evening.
O'Brien made the brighter start and claimed the first frame in the best of 11 match.
