British number one Tim Henman eased into the fourth round and the second week for the eighth successive year by dispatching Swedish teenager Robin Soderling in just one hour and 34 minutes at Wimbeldon today.

Henman lost just eight games to run out a 6-3 6-1 6-4 winner in a match which allowed him to conserve energy for the sterner challenges ahead.

Given a third spot on Centre Court to satisfy television billing, Henman had been forced to wait until after 6 p.m. before the match got under way with the Centre Court half in sunshine and half in shade.

Henman didn't waste any time imposing his superiority on his inexperienced opponent. It looked that way as Soderling's first service games were sprinkled with double faults and uncertainty.

Henman raced into a 4-1 lead before the Swede began to show any semblance of the form which had carried him through the qualifying tournament and into the third round.

The Briton wrapped up the first set in just 34 minutes and for once the folks on the Hill, as they sipped their beer, looked confident that their man would not falter.

"I'm pleased with the way I'm playing," Henman said to the BBC. "My serve is in good rhythm, I'm not giving him to any chance to break me. The first two sets were great. I didn't enjoy the third, I was rushing a little and thinking 'I've got to get the match over'.

"I tried to slow myself down. I had to re-group and I was pretty happy to get it finished."Henman has yet to face a major test, having faced a lucky loser and two qualifiers to get to the fourth round, but he is delighted with his progress.

"I've had three wins and I'm coming back for the second week," he said. "In the last two matches, I've run into some pretty good form. I will start fresh next week and I'm looking forward to it.

"I do feel ready. After the first match I knew I would have to improve my form. I've played some good stuff in the last two matches."
