Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has been named player of the year by the English Football Writers' Association.
Henry, who was named the Professional Footballers' Association player of the year on Sunday, edged out Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy and former England captain Alan Shearer of Newcastle United.
Henry, 25, is the fourth Frenchman to take the writers' award after Eric Cantona, David Ginola and his Arsenal team mate Robert Pires, who won it last year.
