An asylum-seeker has been found guilty of killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident on February 2nd, 1988 by a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court last night.
Bradean Samolia, told the court he was afraid he would be deported if he told gardai what had happened. He wept as he explained how he lied to gardai about his whereabouts when his car stuck newsagent Mr Noel Farrell on Prussia Street, Dublin. "I was afraid. I didn't want to go back to Romania. It's very hard there," he said.
He will be sentenced today.
