A hoax package caused an alert and an investigation by the Army bomb disposal unit at the National Gallery shortly after 11 a.m. this morning.
A package was found in the post room of the National Gallery, but, following an investigation the Army bomb disposal unit identified the package as a hoax and the all clear was given at 12.15 p.m.
The National Gallery and Merrion Square West have now been re-opened.
Last May, the Army bomb disposal unit had to carry out a controlled explosion on a bomb found at the railings of a house close to the National Gallery. That device was similar to ones used by paramilitaries in the North.
