The man named in court as having shot dead Veronica Guerin almost 10 years ago tonight again denied having had any role in her death.
In one of his first media interviews since his release from Portlaoise Prison last weekend Patrick Eugene "Dutchy" Holland (66) said: "It wasn't me, I didn't do it", when asked about the fatal shooting of the journalist.
Mr Holland said he did not know why gardai believed he was involved in the murder of Veronica Guerin. "I don't know where that all started from. It was said at my trial, but like I say, I intended taking out a plenary summons but I couldn't do it from prison."
Mr Holland was interviewed by Sky News Ireland from Rome where his legal adviser, Giovanni di Stefano is understood to be arranging a lie detector test for him.
"I have no convictions for any kind of violence, of any kind, not even common assault. So I don't know how I got dragged into it. I have never been accused of any acts of violence."
"I have been charged with ribbing places, robbing banks, no violence."
"I have no alibi for the time of the killing but I can't do anything about that," he told Sky News Ireland, which stated it did not pay a fee or associated expenses to Holland for the interview.
"I don't know how I can prove me innocence, it is just impossible," he said.
Mr Holland released from prison in the early hours of Saturday after serving nine years of a 12-year sentence for drugs offences.
