An RUC Superintendent today condemned the people who planted a home-made explosive device inside the walls of the Lurgan RUC station in Co Armagh as being terrorists.

An improvised coffee-jar device was found inside the wall of RUC station off North Street in Lurgan at about 11.30 a.m. Army Technical Officers were called to the scene and were expected to carry out a controlled explosion of the device.

Superintendent Ian Chapman of the Craigavon area said: "This was a reckless attack aimed at the men and women under my command. It was carried out by terrorists whose reckless act endangered more the lives of anyone passing by than police officers."

Supt Chapman called on the community for their help in bringing the people responsible to justice. He asked anybody who may have been in the Near Street area of Lurgan after 11.30 p.m. on Monday or in the early hours of this morning to contact the police at Lurgan.
