Gardaí were yesterday awaiting the postmortem results on the body of a 17-year-old homeless youth who was found dead in a house at Blackhall Street in Dublin's north inner city on Saturday night.

The deceased, understood to have been found by his girlfriend early on Saturday evening, is the third homeless person in the city to die in the space of just a few days.

He was pronounced dead at 7.30pm on Saturday, shortly after being brought by Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance to the Mater hospital. Gardaí said they would not be releasing his name yet. The postmortem examination is expected to reveal the cause of death, which may have been a drug overdose.

Meanwhile, the results of postmortems on the bodies of two other homeless people - one woman and one man - found within a 12-hour period in Dublin city centre have proved inconclusive.
