A dealer of in thoroughbred horses dealer was fined £500 at Dublin District Court yesterday for cruelty after an old mare he owned was allowed to starve for six weeks.
Emmet Quinlan, Upper Leeson Street, Dublin, denied ill-treating a chestnut mare at Scribblestown, Blanchardstown, on March 27th. He said he was making arrangements to have the horse put down on the day a DSPCA inspector found her "skin and bone" and unable to stand up.
Quinlan was also ordered to pay £1,152 in vet's costs and DSPCA expenses.
