The businessman and race horse trainer John Mulhern died this morning. He was 69.
Mr Mulhern is survived by his wife, Eimear Mulhern, chairman of Goffs and daughter of the late taoiseach Charles Haughey.
A successful businessman who ran the Findus operation in Ireland, Mr Mulhern was also the retired operator of the Meadow Court Stud in Kildare.
He was well known in racing circles and enjoyed some success as a trainer, winning what was then known as the Stavers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in 1987 and 1988, with Galmoy. He also trained Flashing Steel to win the Irish Grand National in 1995.
Mr Mulhern was a controversial business figure and featured in the report of the inspectors into the secretive Ansbacher operation, run by the late Des Traynor, a friend of Mr Haughey.
Last Friday he was named in Iris Oifigiuil as having made a €1.4 million settlement with the Revenue Commissioners.
