Veteran Blues chanteuse Nina Simone was presented with a special award for her lifetime's contribution to music by Sinead O'Connor in Dublin last night.

The rock 'n' roll elite thronged the Hot Press Hall of Fame for the 19th annual Heineken Hot Press awards, which were hosted by Ulrika Jonsson and Mike Edgar .

The best Irish female singer award went to Andrea Corr, of the Corrs. Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy won the best Irish male singer award and his band also won the best Irish album award for their Fin de Siecle.

Best Irish single was awarded to U2 for The Sweetest Thing and best digital beat single went to Agnelli and Nelson for El Nino.

The Chieftains received an award for best Irish group act, while Keith Duffy of Boyzone picked up an award on behalf of Robbie Williams for best live performance by an international act.

Mr Ross Graham was presented with the industry award for his production of the Across the Bridge of Hope album, which was recorded for the Omagh fund.
