Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier today conceded Steven Gerrard's tackle, which saw the England midfielder sent off on Saturday, was worthy of a red card.
The 21-year-old was given his marching orders following a knee-high challenge on Aston Villa's George Boateng during the second half of a 3-1 Liverpool loss.
Houllier defended his player in the post-match press conference, claiming Gerrard had won the ball and accusing Boateng of play-acting.
But after watching the incident again on television, the Liverpool boss admitted Gerrard was in the wrong.

Houllier told a daily British newspaper: "It was a reckless challenge. He has to learn from this. I think frustration got the better of him".
