A Health Service Executive worker has appeared in court in Cork on charges of stealing prescription drugs and of forging the signatures of a number of doctors.

Wilson Abel (31) of Headlands Apartments, Sarsfields Road, Cork, appeared before Judge Constantine O’Leary at Cork District Court on 24 separate charges.

They include 12 counts of stealing ampules of fentanyl citrate, an opiate-based painkiller, from a woman at St Mary’s Orthopaedic Hospital, on various dates earlier this year and on dates in 2007.

They also include counts of forging the signatures of a number of doctors on the Dangerous Drugs Register at the same hospital on various dates last year.

The defendant was remanded on bail until June 26th to Cork District Court.
