Gardaí are investigating whether arson was the cause of a fire that destroyed a number of premises in Skibbereen in Co Cork yesterday evening.
The fire started on Bridge Street at around 6.30pm.
It caused hundreds of thousands of euro worth of damage to a restaurant, a hardware store and the local social welfare office.
There were no injuries, and the fire was brought under control by three units of the Cork County Fire Service.
Gardaí were originally called to the Bridge Street area last night after reports that a number of people were arguing. Officers heard reports that several cars were damaged and some buildings had been entered.
One man was arrested in connection with a public order incident prior to the fire and was taken to Skibbereen Garda Station for questioning.
Gardaí said it was unclear whether the events and the fire were related.
