Bohemians captain Kevin Hunt gave his club a major boost today when he signed a contract that will keep him at Dalymount Park for another three seasons.
The news represents a significant coup for new Bohs boss Stephen Kenny, who had been facing the prospect of losing Hunt, one of the eircomleague's classiest midfielders, on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Carlisle United had been keen to lure the 26-year-old back to his native England, but Kenny convinced him to stay in Dublin and a statement on Bohemians official website showed how warmly the club has welcomed Hunt's decision to stay.
"We look forward to Kevin playing a pivotal role in the club's future. Without a doubt Kevin has won a special place in the hearts of all Bohemians fans. From his début at Turner's Cross on December 6th, 1998, when the side, then in the midst of a battle against relegation, fought to earn a much needed point, to last Sunday's 3-0 triumph at the same venue, his commitment and ability have shone through.
"That in May 2001 Kevin should captain Bohemians to a first League title since 1978, and our first League and FAI Cup double in 73 years, was entirely appropriate, for no single player did more to make such triumphs possible.
"Since joining Bohemians, Kevin Hunt has been the consummate professional on and off the field and a delight to know and work with," the statement said.
