Six Connemara hurlers who claim they were beaten up by door staff in a Dublin disco yesterday sought €228,000 damages from The Jensen Hotel, Clondalkin, Dublin, owners of The Blue Banana disco.

They are Mr Kevin Conneely (36), of Bothar Bui, Knock, Inverin; Anthony (37) and Colm Conneely (31), both of Knock, Inverin; Christy (30) and Colm O'Toole (36), of Knock, Inverin; and Mr Philip Kilmartin (40), of Salahoona, Spiddal, all Co Galway.

Their claims, each for €38,000 damages, were also taken in the Circuit Civil Court against door staff Mr Michael McKenny, Mr Noel Hanlon, Mr Bernard Brennan, Ms Margaret Beatty, Mr Jim Deveraux and Mr Michael Greene.

The hurlers claim that they were attacked in The Blue Banana and battered with glasses, bottles, batons, fists and kicks to the head and body.

The defendants deny the allegations and claim that the hurlers fought with others both inside and outside the disco.

Part of the hurlers' claim involves alleged negligence on the part of management for failure to warn them of the "frenzied dance rave" nature of the disco.

Following two hours of settlement talks between Mr Paul Walsh SC, counsel for Cavvies Ltd, which trades as The Jensen Hotel, and Mr Michael O'Connor, counsel for the hurlers, Mr Walsh told the Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Smyth, that the cases could be adjourned for mention until next Friday.
