Port-Au-Prince - Hurricane Georges rampaged across Haiti yesterday, continuing its journey through the Caribbean that has left at least 33 dead and dozens missing.

In Haiti, 13 people were killed, two injured and widespread damage was reported, civil protection director Ms Yolene Surena said.

And in the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, 12 were confirmed dead and 33 were missing.

In anticipation of the storm, the Florida Keys has ordered the evacuation of all 80,000 people from that vulnerable string of islands on the southern tip of the US state, and 537,000 people were poised to begin an exodus from Miami Beach and other low-lying areas.
