FOUR-YEAR-old Lucy Richardson from Lucan, Co Dublin, is thriving after a liver transplant, according to her father Conor Richardson.

“When Lucy was 15 months she had vomiting and diarrhoea. We took her to hospital and after around three days she developed liver failure. She was in hospital for four weeks and her liver eventually recovered. We were told it was a once-off and probably wouldn’t happen again.

“Two months later her liver failed again and going on for three months after that, it happened again. She was put on a super-critical transfer list and was airlifted to London.

“In King’s College, after three days we got notification that she could have a transplant. She got a third of an adult liver. It was a six-hour operation which went well. She was five weeks in London.

“Now she goes to Crumlin outpatients, she had a couple of complications but in the last couple of years she’s been doing very well.

“When they mentioned transplant first I thought, that’s it. But it’s really given her a new lease of life.
