Irish lamb will replace New Zealand lamb in the Iceland supermarket group over the next three weeks, it was announced yesterday by the Irish Farmers Association and confirmed by a spokesman for Iceland, which has six stores in the Republic. This follows meetings between the IFA and Iceland's British management after a protest by sheep farmers at the Iceland store in Dun Laoghaire last week when New Zealand lamb was forcibly removed from the store.
The IFA has warned other stores, restaurants, hotels and food outlets using New Zealand lamb that its campaign against the imports would continue.
