The Irish Farmers’ Association has begun a campaign against Lidl Ireland over its alleged use of misleading labelling.
IFA national sheep chairman James Murphy said Lidl advertised its Inisvale brand as Bord Bia Quality assured with an Irish flag. However, “in the fridges underneath, they are selling Inisvale lamb chops which states in the smallest of print ‘produced in Northern Ireland using lamb from New Zealand’.”
In a statement yesterday, Lidl said it “can confirm that it sells one line of fresh lamb under its recently launched meat brand Inisvale. As is Lidl’s policy with all labelling, the origin of the lamb is clearly marked on the product’s packaging. Lidl can further confirm that Irish lamb will be on sale in all 121 Irish stores from early June.”
