Early indications from county executive meetings of the Irish Farmers' Association last night indicated that Mr Tom Parlon would be returned as president of the association with a landslide vote from members.
The 29 county executives met to nominate members for the position of IFA president, which became vacant when Mr Parlon resigned over the decision of the national executive to obey a High Court Order rather than face fines of £500,000 per day for continuing to blockade meat plants. There is unlikely to be any change in any of the other positions being filled next week at the IFA annual meeting, which will elect a president, deputy president and four vice-presidents.
