The Irish Farmers' Association said last night it had received an "unacceptable" response to its queries to the German supermarket chain, Aldi, which is selling milk at 22p per litre less than the current price in the Republic.
The farmers' organisation had given the supermarket until 5.30 p.m. yesterday to explain its milk pricing policies. However, last night the IFA said the Aldi response was unsatisfactory and its business tactics were unacceptable.
The milk, which is produced at Strathboy Creamery in Co Antrim, is being sold at 89p for two litres. The average supermarket price for milk produced in the Republic is 66p per litre.
