The leader of the Islamic Foundation of Ireland has condemned the Government's reaction to the bombing of Iraq. Imam Yahya M. Al-Hussein told The Irish Times last night that his community was "very angry" about "what is happening" in Iraq. "I condemn it, of course. Everyone should condemn it. It is not achieving anything. It is only complicating the situation," he said. "The Irish Government should be condemning this situation too."
Imam Al Hussein said Ireland should be sending medical supplies to the Iraqis. "The Americans are bombing these chemical weapons sites, they say, but are showing no regard for the civilians.
"There are very many Muslims here with family in Iraq who are very worried. Some have contacted Iraq by telephone on the first night of the bombing but I don't think anyone has since," he added. There are about 7,000 Muslims in Ireland from up to 20 countries.
