The Irish Medicines Board has issued an urgent notice for patients taking Prednisolone steroid tablets (20mg) after a precautionary recall of the medication by the manufacturer.

A batch of the pills, made by Clonmel Healthcare, was found to have microbial contamination, the IMB said.

The batch affected is numbered 0658R with the expiry date 06/2008. It was distributed beween June 30 thand July 18 ththis year.

The IMB asked all patients prescribed with this drug between those dates to check the label to see if it is the 20mg strength. They should not take any more of the tablets, but immediately return them to a doctor or pharmacist for further advice.

A statement from the IMB said it was working with Clonmel Healthcare to recall the affected tablets and was also investigating the cause of the contamination with the company.
