IMPACT is to serve strike notice today on behalf of almost 200 members in the probation and welfare service. The strike is over the refusal of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr O'Donoghue, to appoint any probation officers to the expert group set up to review the service.
Yesterday Mr Peter Nolan of IMPACT said that members had voted by five to one for industrial action. This would take place in January.
The Department of Justice says that union interests will be represented on the expert group by the assistant general secretary of the ICTU, Ms Patricia O'Donovan.
