Prison abuse action dismissed
A man who claimed he was sexually abused and assaulted by prison officers while detained in St Patrick’s Institution and Shanganagh Prison some 40 years ago has had his action for damages against the State dismissed on grounds of delay. The man alleged he was sexually abused and assaulted by a one officer while detained in both prisons in 1967, 1968 and 1969. He also alleged he was assaulted by numerous other prison officers. At the High Court yesterday, Mr Justice John Hedigan ruled there was an inexcusable delay in bringing the case which had created a real risk to the defendants of an unfair trial.

"The aim of the all-island conference is to share information and experiences on biodiversity and planning, covering the areas of green infrastructure, coastal zone management, the water framework directive, Natura 2000 and spatial planning," Mr Gormley told The Irish Times.
