Security man made over 800 nuisance calls
A security worker who made nuisance phone calls to his former employer's offices has received a two-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Mark Kivlehan (25) made more than 800 calls over a three-month period to Top Security, where he had previously worked and left on good terms, and to telesales company Prime Forestry Ireland.
Det Garda Dominic McGrath told Vincent Heneghan, prosecuting, that a common "catch phrase" of Kivlehan's was "I want to s . . . on your desk". Judge Desmond Hogan described Kivlehan as "passively aggressive" and said the calls were "frightening, vulgar and abusive".
Kivlehan, of Grove Road, Finglas, pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment of a female and a male victim through "persistent pestering by communication" through phone calls between January and March in 2004.
Det Garda McGrath said Kivlehan made 660 calls to Top Security over a three-month period. He rang the company's office, sites and industrial estate numbers "at all hours of the day and night" and made various threats to employees and members of their families.
He had known of personal information in relation to the victims and had made "nasty" comments. He made a further 205 nuisance calls to a telesales company, Prime Forestry Ireland, during the same period.
Luigi Rea, defending, said his client had no previous convictions and was a cannabis user.
Judge Hogan suspended the final year of the sentence on condition that Kivlehan enter into a good behaviour bond for two years following his release.
Two drug addicts jailed over raids
Two drug addicts who carried out a series of armed raids to raise funds for their habits have been jailed by Judge Yvonne Murphy at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Colm Kane (19), of Willow Vale, Ballybrack, was jailed for five years after he pleaded guilty to seven robberies of various Dublin shops, pubs and post offices; two thefts; possession for sale or supply of €1,400 worth of ecstasy and cannabis resin; and two road traffic offences, between April 14th, 2005 and May 23rd, 2006.
Ian Lawlor (19), of Beachwood Lawns, Killiney, was jailed for four and a half years after he pleaded guilty to three robberies of a house and two shops, one theft and one charge of allowing himself to be carried in a stolen car between May 10th, 2005 and May 23rd, 2006.
Robber given six-year sentence
A drug addict who robbed a newsagents while unlawfully at large from Wheatfield Prison has been given a six-year prison sentence by Judge Yvonne Murphy at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
James Carroll (24), of Cromlech Fields, Ballybrack first came to Garda attention when seven years old, started taking drugs at 13 and has spent all but 20 months of the last 10 years in detention or prison.
Carroll pleaded guilty to five robberies, an attempted robbery, possession of an imitation firearm and unlawful use of a vehicle on dates between April 6th, 2005 and July 1st, 2005. He bought drugs with the robbery proceeds.
Judge Murphy suspended the last two years of the sentence on condition he get drug treatment when released.
