Two held over fatal stabbing

Gardaí were last night continuing to question two men about the fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old man in Swords, Co Dublin, early on Sunday morning, writes Conor Lally, Crime Correspondent.

The victim, who was from Latvia, died after he sustained stab wounds through his right leg in the early morning attack. He was found injured just after 3am at a house on Oaklands Avenue.

He died in Beaumont hospital at about 10pm on Sunday.

The two men being interviewed last night were Lithuanian nationals aged 24 and 19. Detectives have also interviewed a number of other witnesses. The two suspects were being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Pilot survives air crash in Wexford

A pilot received slight injuries when his light aircraft crashed near Caim, outside Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, yesterday evening.

The aircraft was reported to have crashed at about 5.45pm.

A full-scale emergency service was put into place, with ambulances from Enniscorthy and Wexford going to the scene.

The pilot was given emergency assistance before being taken to Wexford General Hospital. It is understood he received minor injuries in the crash.
