Top Mafia chief arrested

Italian police confirmed the arrest of two leading Mafia figures yesterday, one of whom was listed among the country’s 30 most dangerous fugitives.

Franco Li Bergolis (32), a chief in the Mafia of the southern Italian region of Puglia, was caught by police in his home town, Monte Sant’ Angelo, the interior ministry said in a statement. “Now there are only three of the 30 missing,” said interior minister Roberto Maroni.

SA tackles crime against migrants 

JOHANNESBURG – South Africa will hand out harsh punishments including long jail terms to perpetrators of xenophobic attacks against migrants, the police minister said yesterday. Foreign migrants are often accused by locals of taking their jobs and contributing to the high crime rate. – (Reuters)

Afghans say British woman kidnapped

LONDON – A British woman and three of her Afghan colleagues have been kidnapped by armed men in a remote part of Afghanistan, the Afghan police chief for Kunar province has said.

They were seized while visiting an unspecified project in the area. – (Reuters)
